Background:
Sora grew up in a wizarding family that has a curious blend of both Muggle and magical elements. Although his mother is a pureblood, she had a very keen interest in the Muggle world which his father knew much about, being a half-blood raised in both worlds. This is how they became close friends during their school years and eventually fell in love and were married. His father is of distant Japanese descent, but it has been a long time since anyone in his family has gone back to the motherland.

Though he's an only child, Sora has never been truly spoiled by his parents or grandparents, despite the fact that their affection toward him is quite glaringly obvious. He began to learn magic at an early age, more or less taught by his mother and her parents, and though he didn't really show much natural talent in the art to begin with, he worked hard and practiced often until his abilities improved. Most of his better magic spells have happened by accident. For his part, Sora's father spent his free time coaching Sora in the finer points of Quidditch, one thing that he has been able to pick up on with relative ease (though whether or not he's any good at it is another thing entirely... but he's practicing!). His family is very proud of him, and his parents didn't hesitate to send him off to Hogwarts once he was of age.

Currently, Sora's family is settled in Stockport, England, but for the better part of Sora's childhood they lived in the USA. They moved to England before Sora's 10th birthday, when his father was transferred. Upon receiving Sora's acceptance letter to Hogwarts, his parents would have moved them out to London for the convenience of having an easier time getting to the station, but the city was decidedly much too busy for their tastes. Sora's family is middle-class, his father being a worker in the ministry's Muggle Liaison Office (first in the American, then transferred to the British) and his mother running a toy shop in the Muggle city they live in. This allowed them to maintain the appearance of an ordinary Muggle family. They are loving and very close knit, as was instilled in them from the paternal side's Japanese cultural roots.

Sora is naturally curious and adventurous, laid-back and good-natured, and generally easy to get along with (almost to a fault). Despite being a bit of a prankster, he's naive and gullible. He's not the smartest boy around, getting only average grades in school (with the possible exception of his favorite classes, Defense Against the Dark Arts and Charms), but none of that has ever bothered him. He always does his best and his determination has always been a powerful driving force in everything he does, often spending entire afternoons working on something to get it just right... Though he'd honestly rather be outside on some kind of adventure than cooped up inside to study or work. He's an avid daydreamer and often gets in trouble with the stricter teachers for doing so in class. Sora cares very much about the people close to him, often feeling the need to protect them somehow and is (mentally) prepared to do whatever it takes to do so should anything happen (he is currently trying to train himself between classes to be prepared physically).
